Auburn Morning Rush: Baseball looking to bounce back against Stanford

Auburn baseball is down but not out.

The Tigers dropped their first game in Omaha but they have a chance to keep their season going when they face Stanford Monday afternoon.

In football news, recruiting is hitting a key stretch and several of Auburn’s top targets have trimmed their lists of schools and have set their commitment dates. The Tigers are in good standing with most of them and could soon land multiple commits for the 2023 recruiting class.

The last member of Auburn basketball’s impressive 2022 recruiting class has arrived in Auburn and the Tigers can now start preparing for their trip to Israel at full strength.

Auburn baseball dropped their first game at the College World Series and their backs are up against the wall but all is not lost. The Tigers are set to play No. 2 Stanford at 1 p.m. CT in an elimination game.

“The man, the woman, the team that refuses to quit is hard to beat,” head coach Butch Thompson said. “Staying in the fight is a message you hope this club understands. This is one step at a time. We’ve got to make a grind here.”

The Tiger’s offense was unable to get anything going against Ole Miss on Saturday, managing just four hits in the 5-1 loss. Their bats will have to come alive if they hope to make it to the final series, which will require them to win four games in four days.

These Tigers are used to bouncing back, they lost back-to-back games just four times all season. They will have a great chance to show their consistency Monday against the Cardinal.

Auburn looks to be a serious contender for several important targets in the 2023 recruiting class. They have not yet landed a new commitment, but multiple targets trimmed their lists and included Auburn.

Karmello English, a four-star wide receiver, is set to commit on July 2 and one expert believes he will pick Auburn. He isn’t the only receiver who is high on the Tigers.

Daquayvious Sorey announced his top four schools and the Tigers made the cut. They will be battling Florida, Alabama, and Miami for the four-star receiver from the Sunshine State who is set to commit on July 4.

One of the main differences between the SEC and the rest of college football is the play in the trenches. Auburn is looking to land several elite defensive linemen and Jamaal Jarrett is one of the best available. The 6-foot-6, 350-pounder is the No. 3 player from North Carolina and will be deciding between Auburn, Georgia, and North Carolina. He is set to announce his decision on July 19.

It took a little longer than expected but five-star signee Yohan Traore has made it to Auburn. The Tiger’s highest-rated signee announced on social media that he has moved in and is now set to join the team’s practices.

The other newcomers (Johni Broome, Tre Donaldson, and Chance Westry) moved in a couple of weeks ago. It is not known why Traore was unable to move in with them.

Traore, the second highest-rated signee in program history, can play the 4 or 5 for Auburn and can score with his back to the basket or from midrange.
